Meet the Dogs

Renee Wierz and Jack

Jack is a 6-year-old labradoodle who loves swimming, volunteering, and spending time listening to children read at Paws 2 Read. His favorite treats include beef jerky and hot dogs! Jack was rescued from a bad place that always kept him in a kennel and he was very afraid of things. Through great training and people that love him Jack began to open up and see a new nicer world. When he learned what it meant to be a therapy dog, he changed his entire attitude and life by helping others love life as much as him! His favorite sayings are “out of darkness comes light!” and “Everything happens for a reason.” He loves tricks including his EASY button, so ask him to do a trick next time you see him.

Julie Moran and Payson

Payson is an 11-year-old black lab/golden retriever mix who has lived with her family ever since she was little. Being a therapy dog is what she’s all about and over the past six years she has visited people in hospitals, care centers, schools, and group homes but her favorite is hanging out with kids. She loves having the kids read to her at the library even if it sometimes puts her to sleep! Her favorite treats are carrots and her best friend is her kitty, Beemer. Come see her soon—she’d love to have you read to her!

Ali Germaine and Higgins

Higgins is a 2-year-old male Cairn Terrier Mix who weighs in at 23lbs. He is white with tan spots, a black button nose and the most wonderful soulful eyes. After being adopted in October 2010 good food, love and lots of exercise helped him develop into the most loveable, obedient and happy little guy. Higgins learns quickly and loves children. His favorite treat is beef jerky, he adores having his tummy rubbed and going for long walks. His best doggy pal in the whole world is Angus,” a fun-loving Boston terrier. Higgins & Angus have a regular play date twice a week. Higgins will sit by the door waiting for Angus to arrive and then the fun begins. Higgins makes a wonderful Therapy Dog – he just goes with the flow. He shares his love at the Dobson Ranch branch library so look for him there.

Jodi and Gus

Gus is a 2-1⁄2 year old German Shepherd. He has been through obedience classes as well as agility classes and has earned his Star Puppy, Canine Good Citizens and of course, his Pet Partners registration. Attending an obedience class just for German Shepherds keeps him busy but Gus has that tender heart just waiting to listen to you read. Gus has grown up with horses, a cat, guinea pigs and his pal Max (15 1⁄2 yr. old dachshund). Gus’ favorite game to play is fetch, but he also enjoys walking, jogging and chasing the birds out of the yard. He loves jumping, going through the tunnels as well as jumping and running through the hoops. What a guy!

Stacie Holub, JD and Molly

JD and Molly are two very special dogs - they love people more than other dogs! They especially love kids! JD is a five year old Malti-poo, and Molly is a two year old Maltese. JD is a seasoned therapy dog having visited Mercy Gilbert Medical Center for two years and now also enjoying time with Paws 2 Read and listening to kids read stories to him. He absolutely adores his time with the kids in the library. Molly recently obtained her Canine Good Citizen recognition and therapy dog registration. She is following JD’s example and started visiting at the hospital and having the kids read to her at the library, too. When Molly and JD are at home they love chasing birds and helicopters that fly over the yard, biting at the sprinkler heads as they pop up, chasing one another around super-duper fast, and keeping watch over the neighborhood as they gaze through the front screen door. Their favorite treats are peanut butter, chicken jerky, and watermelon! Come see us at the library and read their book—it’s all about JD & Molly!
